Come experience the exciting, celebratory joy of Lindy Hop, the original swing dance! Lindy Hop came out of the newly evolving jazz and Big Band music that spread throughout the dance halls of Harlem in the 1920’s – the 1940’s, and it has recently become a global craze.  In our class, you will learn the fundamental moves and figures that serve as the basis for the many variations within this dynamic, creative, and above all FUN dance. You will also gain a good understanding of partnered connection in social dance as you develop the skills to lead/follow and move together to great music.

  • No experience is necessary. We will be starting at a beginner level, but even experienced dancers will find something to challenge and encourage them as they learn a new dance form.
  • Free, weekly lesson recaps online.
  • No partner required.
  • Dress is casual
  • Bring shoes that are comfortable, and that you don’t normally wear on the street. Flat-bottomed, smooth-soled shoes will work best for this class, and they should be clean and dry (not your normal street-shoes).

Registration for this class is administered through Mankato Community Education and Recreation. Register by clicking here.

This class builds upon Beginner Lindy Hop Swing Dancing Level 1 (formerly called just, “Beginner Lindy Hop Swing Dancing). Each session will begin by working to refine and improve the move that is the heart and soul of Lindy Hop, the Swing Out, before moving on to explore some of the many exciting moves and variations that can develop out of it. Students will continue to develop their skills as leads and follows while gaining a clearer understanding of how Lindy Hop works as an improvisational, social dance. If you’re ready to take your dancing to the next level, this class is for you!
