We had a great time at the special dance we set up with the WOW!Zone to coordinate with the end of our last class, so we’re trying to make it a regular thing! The first of three monthly dances will be on April 27th! At each dance, there will be a short, free swing lesson at 6:30 pm, followed by dancing to live music by Dan Duffy Orchestra from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. There will be no cover charge, so please remember to support the venue by purchasing some food or drink.

This is a phenomenon that occurs in Minneapolis during the first weekend in May, and we are betting that you have never seen anything quite like it! Midwest Lindy Fest is a 4 day dance event that combines classes from some of the best instructors in the world, inspiring competitions, and multiple nights of fantastic social dancing to some amazing live bands. Throw in a river boat jazz cruise to kick the whole thing off, and you’re talking about one memorable weekend. There is instruction for all levels, and a focused weekend like this is a great way to make some serious progress as a beginner. We know of a few people from Mankato who went last year, so if you are interested in the possibility of car pooling or sharing housing, send us an email and we’ll try to put you in contact with other attendees.

This is another great workshop weekend that takes place in Minneapolis a little bit later in the summer. This event is put on by Minnesota’s own world class (and world famous) Lindy Hop teachers Peter Strom and Naomi Uyama, of Uptown Swing. This event has it all: excellent classes, phenomenal social dancing, and 2 nights of exceptional live jazz from Naomi and Her Handsome Devils! Again, this is a great place to learn, especially if you are a beginner. Let us know if you have any questions about attending an event like this; we will be happy to answer them, and we will STRONGLY encourage you to go.

Dance to Dan Duffy Orchestra at the Wow!Zone! March 10th 6-9pm
The WowZone has kindly agreed to collaborate with us to set up a swing night to correspond with the end of our current class! We love dancing there and eating their nummy food, so join us from 6-9pm on March 10th and we will all do those things together :)! The Dan Duffy Orchestra is so fun to listen to that even if you panic and don’t want to dance you will still have a whole night of great music to enjoy!

Dance to the Dan Duffy Orchestra at the WOW! Zone
Hi everyone! I hope you are all ready to dance off some of that Thanksgiving dinner because I just got word that the Dan Duffy Orchestra is playing at the WOW Zone this Friday! This is one of the best swing bands in town! We love dancing to them and if you haven’t done it yet, you need to. The WOW Zone is a great place to get get some dinner and sit back and watch for a while if you are feeling timid, so don’t let that keep you from coming. Please respond to the Facebook event or by email to let us know if you intend to be there so we can reserve a spot for you at our table!

Southern Minnesota’s Real Big Band @ The Indian Island Winery
Join us for a wonderful evening of live music and dancing at the Indian Island Winery. Music will be provided by Southern Minnesota’s Real Big Band, an 18-member ensemble dedicated to preserving and sharing the great tradition of live jazz in southern Minnesota. Indian Island Winery is set in a beautiful, rural landscape, and is a great place to sample delicious drinks, enjoy excellent food (including elk and bison burgers), and to simply sit back, relax, and watch the sun set. Let us know if you think you will be coming, and we’ll try to get their early and stake out some seats near the dance floor!

Blues on Belgrade is another fun, summery, outdoor event focused around live music that is great for dancing! We will be meeting up during The Charles Walker Band from 4:00-5:30pm. Dancers are welcome to stay and keep dancing as long as they like, but we are guessing the crowds might become a bit thick for dancing as the evening continues. Contact us if you are coming so we can keep an eye out for you and arrange for a more specific meeting place if necessary.

Meet up with us in St. Peter for their yearly Ambassadors Blues Fest! This is a fun outdoor event with great food and great music! If you plan to come, send us an email so we can keep an eye out for you or arrange a spot to meet. Fun fact: The headlining band, The Jimmys, were named the “2012 Best Swing/Big Band Ensemble” by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry and have received numerous other awards for their musical talents since then! Hope to see you all there!

*The Jimmys play from 7:30-9:30 and we are planning to do the main meetup for that show. However, Eric and I do plan to be in and out for pretty much the whole day from 12:00pm-10:00pm. We would love for you to let us know if you are going to be there for the Jimmys so we can look for you, but if you can only make it to an earlier band, be especially sure to let us know so that we don’t step out during the time you plan to be there!

- The Dan Duffy Orchestra will be returning to play at the Wow Zone in Mankato! We had a lot of fun with those of you who came out dancing last time, and we expect it to be just as great the second time around! We’ll try to get a table up front by the dance floor, so look for us or other dancers you recognize there. We are excited to dance with all of you again, and if you don’t know us yet, we would love for you to introduce yourself and ask us to dance!
